As an MSP. I run my MacBook Pro M1. I switched from an air to a pro to increase ram. I run parallels to allow for windows and linux. I have always wondered why more IT Professionals don't run Mac OS. It is based on BSD. While not linux I have found that most tools that I use in linux I can use on the command line in the OS X environment.

I haven't seen someone make me less want to watch their channel than Jay did, like respect your audience enough to buy a cheap backup usb mic. If I can do it for stupid gaming stuff, you can for something where you're trying to appear professional.

Surprised they don't offer more nics at this price point. Not sure if it was mentioned, intel nic or rtl?

Yes please make a video about linux backups, that would be super useful. I've been slowly preparing to switch from windows to linux as my daily driver and the details like backups etc are critical.

This is an awesome video. I know it's aimed at XCP-ng users, but the TrueNAS side of things is a great starting point as well. In particular, TrueNAS Scale, as of Wednesday, June 26, 2024, doesn't make it obvious in the UI that the generic template is the best dataset template for NFS use. Since NFS is meant for *nix filesystems and the generic permissions are generic unix permissions, it's implied, but if you don't know that, it's not super-clear. One of those little details that makes the learning curve a bit steeper than it needs to be, but that will hopefully be fixed with a minor adjustment to the UI someday. :) Though, I'm curious about one point: was there a reason you avoided using ACLs for the NFS share?

I changed in 2008 too, I changed to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. I stayed on Ubuntu, now I run a minimal install of Ubuntu 24.04 LTS supplemented by OpenZFS and Virtualbox. I run al my apps in 6 VMs (4x Linux; 2x Windows). I have separate VMs for; 📬Email & Social Media;💰Banking exclusively; 📽Multimedia; 🚮Try-outs; Windows XP as jukebox and Windows 11 Pro, in case I need it. I still use 2 ancients OSes daily: - Windows XP Home, the jukebox, installed and activated in March 2010, it survived 2 VBox owners, 3 desktops and 4 CPUs; - Ubuntu 16.04 ESM (encrypted) with the latest stable snaps of Firefox and LibreOffice (Calc) for banking. The 8 year old OS runs exactly the same snaps as 24.04 LTS :) The $349 hardware from Apr 2019 is a Ryzen 3 2200G, the 2nd slowest Ryzen ever; 16GB DDR4; 512 GB nvme (3400/2300 MB/s) and I reused a 128 GB sata-SSD and a 2TB HDD. The system is still responsive, but I have the feeling it is getting somewhat slower, time for a midlife upgrade to 32GB and Ryzen 5 5600G. Xubuntu boot time is 7 secs; Windows XP (1 core) 25 secs and Fedora 40 is 37 secs from SSD cache (L2ARC) and HDD and reboot is 16 secs from memory cache (L1ARC); SSD cache (L2ARC) and HDD Sinds I have only one pair of hands all VMs run from the L1ARC after a few seconds. it is like running a VM from RAM disk 😄 At the moment the L1ARC contains 7.16 GiB of lz4 compressed program code, the physical size is maxed to 4 GiB.

Funnily, I ended up on Pop!_OS after trying pretty much everything and Pop!_OS played best with my hardware environment out of ANY distro I tried, and on top of that the Cosmic desktop's hybrid tiling was a godsend to my workflow. The only issues I actually have with Pop!_OS is that they're not on 24.04 yet for their base and corner-snapping (when not tiling) requires an additional plugin. I may end up just using KDE Plasma again later, once version 6 comes to Pop!_OS, but for now I'm happy on Cosmic and have no reason to move. And yes, I can use Arch (btw), but Pop!_OS ended up just the friendlier place to live even if it's fun to play with Arch.

Do you really rely on pop os? Haven't there been some problems in the past?

I don't find WIndows getting worse. If anything I hated the cell phone on a start menu on win10 and that it takes 4 to 5 mouse clicks to get an IP address which is very frustrating to old people on the phone to remote in. Windows 11 solves that and has a tabbed file explorer. The only thing I hate is Microsoft Edge feels very scammy like IE 6 with a bunch of coupon malvertisements all over the place. But that is an edge thing.

Can you run “slmgr /dlv” to see if it’s using a volume multiple activation key or retail/oem? Some manufacturers are using enterprise volume keys that aren’t for resale. Sounds like a great mini pc!

im stuck in this situation where i need to use them all. literally three open laptops on my desk rn. also yea backing up linux config would be a helpful video. im basically just keeping a script of all config changes i make so i can re-implement them on the next install.... some automation would be nice lol

Thanks for the video. However, my DNS-test did not work for whatever reason. Set up an A-record for test.test to an internal IPV4 address. dig command shows correct name resolution but if i enter test.test in safari I end up with a google search on this. Have no idea what is going wrong here.

I build a DC at the north pole.

With NordVPN installed on a Netgate 1100, I get a D or F, latency of over 300 ms down, 200 up. With the VPN turned off, I get an A, latency is much lower. I may have to forget about using a VPN now.

Absolutely rocking review and excited you and others are reviewing them. Been gradually moving from NUC to Bee-Link for a number of years now and have a enough units in operation long enough to get confidence in the quality of the hardware. My only critiques; please make the support website better/faster with more frequent firmware etc. updates. Overall, I believe Bee-Link is delivering an incredible value.

Hmm. I think I might be inclined to build a miniature Corsi-Rosenthal filter box to sit under it, so as to get HEPA grade air filtering on the input.

I am in media production. Any possibility that you can make a video on TrueNAS for storing photos and video footages? That would be great if you can suggest what are the options for that specific purposes.

How does support model works for pfSense Plus software? Is it a subscription based model or a perpetual license sold with the device? Does automatic update work via UI or they require command line operations?
